Our Program

The Edina High School band program consists of more than 340 students in grades 10, 11, and 12. There are three high school concert bands: a concert band, two sections of varsity band, and two sections of a symphonic band. All three bands form the Edina “Hornet” Marching Band in the fall. There are two extra-curricular jazz bands, three pep bands, and numerous excellent chamber ensembles.

Many band students are actively involved in a wide variety of musical endeavors such as pit orchestras for musicals, wind and percussion members for the EHS Orchestra, and activities such as MSHSL Solo and Ensemble Contests. There is no private lesson program at the Edina High School, but a majority of Edina band students study with one of many outstanding private teachers in the area.

Auditions are held annually for placement in all the high school bands. Musical ability and grade level, along with a strong desire to achieve excellent musical results, are the primary factors in determining placement in bands.

An active parent booster organization lends financial and moral support to assist in the continued success of the Edina bands.

In 2002, MMEA selected the Edina music program as Minnesota’s Exemplary Music Program, and in 2005 and 2007 the Edina High School music program was named as a Grammy Signature School.
